Shayla Patton, Mrs. Mississippi Plus
America 2007 |
|
I love the CD format of "The
Winning Interview"! I was able to listen to them at any time, while
driving, running errands or while exercising. This series gave me the
confidence and skills I needed to place 1st Runner-Up at the 2007 Mrs. Plus
America Pageant... AND THAT WAS MY VERY FIRST PAGEANT! I highly recommend
this series, for any level of pageant competitor or even routine job
interviews. Thanks Ann-Marie! |
|
AGE: Recommended for teens age 15 and up
and adult contestants. Refers to judges' questions about morals, behaviors
and controversial subjects. Although content is not graphic, we suggest that
parents of younger contestants review the tapes beforehand.

Here is what
contestants have said about Ann-Marie Bivans' books |
|
Get Out Your Highlighter |
"I got
this book from the library to give me more information about
beauty pageants, and I couldn't put it down! I started
marking pages of useful information, and then I had to get
my own so I could make notes to myself. It is the most
helpful book written so far, by a woman who used to be a
Miss America judge and knows exactly what they are looking
for, and how to get it." |
|
 |
| It
was a very informative book, and has helped in pageants
|
|
"This book
has helped me to win and be successful in many pageants. I
really enjoyed it and think it could help others do the
same!" |
|
 |
| A necessity for the
beginner and veteran pageant competitor! |
"It is all too easy to jump
into pageant competition without learning what it takes to
prepare. Secrets of Interview, Swimsuit, Talent and Evening
Gown portions of competition are beautifully highlighted in
this book to help contestants avoid mistakes. The importance
of paperwork is not ignored either.
If you're thinking about
competing, I would definitely recommend reading this book
from cover to cover at least once! If you've competed many
times, this book is just as wonderful as it may point out
things you never thought of as well as confirming that you
are doing something right. In my opinion, this book is a
must for the pageant competitor's library." |

|
History in the Making |
"This
book is a must read for all Miss America fans. People often
make judgments about things they do not know. This book is a
true account of the history of the Miss America
Organization. It is refreshing to have facts and be able to
learn the truth. This books shows what an awesome
organization Miss America really is. Great history lesson." |
|
 |
| First
Runner-Up of Miss America Books |
"I
say first-runner up, because as an avid Miss America fan, I
don't think the winning tome had yet to be published. In the
meantime, Ms. Bivans' book is a treat. Very thoroughly
researched, and nicely illustrated. Many black and white
photo. Some color photos, but it definitely could use more,
and from a larger range of years.
My complaint was that it
seemed a "puff piece", written by someone a little too
closely involved with the MAO program -- and therefore lost
some objectivity in reporting of some pageant scandals of
yore -- and let's face it, those are some of the most fun in
a pageant history book. Nonetheless, this is clearly a work
of love on Miss Bivans' part, and a must for anyone who is a
Miss America devotee. But I'm still waiting for the MAO book
that will take the tiara." |
